Introducing CHEN

This guy with happy smile is called Chen. (Personally I really love his smile. Specially his mouth corner is so cute.)

His stage name is "Chen" and I guess it has no relation with his real name.

Fans call him "the beagle's leader" due to his active and charming personalities. It is said that Chen, Chanyeol and Baekhyeon are three members of "the beagle line" in the team. 

Actually his real Korean name is 김종대, which may be romanized as "Kim Jongdae".

Unlike other western countries, in Korea, a person's name consists of family name and given name where family name comes first and given name comes last.
That means is his family name is "Kim"  
and is his given name is "Jongdae".

So you can call him "Kim Jongdae" or just "Jongdae" which is his given name.

Anyway, it would be unfamiliar with you guys but a person's name in Korea is usually comprised of three Chinese characters. One for family name and the other two for given name. Certainly, that borrowed Chinese characters are read differently in Korea's own phonological way.

One thing to focus on here is that there is special meaning to each Chinese character and of course each name has their own meaning.

Each Chinese character is read 金(kim)/鍾(jong)大(dae) in Korea's own phonological system. That means Chinese people will read these characters differently to Korean people.

Now, lets briefly explain the meaning included in his real Korean name.

First, 金(kim) which is his family name means "gold". But one thing you should know is that people usually don't give any substantial meaning to their first name although there exists its own corresponding meaning. That means although the Chinese character written above means "gold" in normal conversation, his family name itself has no relation to gold or something. It is just borrowed for the sound only.

Second, 鍾(jong) which is the first letter of his given name means "traditional drum made of cowhide"
and finally, 大(dae) which is the second letter of his given name means "big".

"Traditional drum made of cowhide" implies meaning of preciousness because that musical instrument has beautiful resonance sound and is also a very valuable stuff. Plus the traditional musical instrument symbolizes longevity. So, we can conclude that the letter 鍾(jong) gives the meaning of "precious or longevity".

When combining both letters there comes "precious and big". Which would mean he would be a precious and valuable person.

Anyway, that was for his name. It was quite long :)

Now let's move on to his birth date.

He was born on 21 September 1992. The year 1992 was "the Year of Monkey" according to the Chinese zodiac sign system.
And his constellation sign is Virgin.

He has both parents and one older brother in his family members.

His height and weight is not revealed officially but I guess his height is just average of those of members in EXO.

He is in the role of main vocal in the team (Actually he sings really well, especially when he sings with his high pitched tone).

Personally, the first impression I had when I first saw Chen was "His smile is so nice".
When he smiles he looks really happy. Also I was so impressed by his charming personalities and his affections towards all of the members.
